Dartington

From 2023 onward I have been photographing the Dartington Hall Estate extensively. Every week I notice something different, and this gallery presents a culmination of that work. In late March, the wildflower meadows are full of anemone and snake’s head fritillary, the magnolia trees are in blossom, and the woodland is thick with the distinctive scent of wild garlic. I always marvel at the tenacity of the buds to surge with life every spring, to greet the lengthening days and warming weather with exuberence, no matter what hardships were brought by winter. May is my favourite month of the year to visit Dartington. In the garden there is colour everywhere you look: sweet iris, Chilean potato vine, torch lily, bulley's primrose, Japanese primrose, calla lily, lamb's tongue, allium. The bees are working fast to make the most of this bonanza so they can store honey for the months of the year when flowers are less abundant.

Then there’s the moments that only the macro lens can capturefreezing those fleeting, tiny details: the textures, colours, and moments of magic that are easily overlooked but are full of wonder. Every detail feels like a celebration of new beginnings.
